This is where the entry into Master Class #1 was. It has been submitted for publication so, until I hear back from that, there will be this placeholder in its stead. Wish me luck and check out some of the other short stories I have written!

Tonight’s short story is an entry into the first week of the Master Class at Sinistral Scribblings. We were given the opening sentence to a novel, in this case DHALGREN by Samuel R Delany, and then we are challenged to write up to 300 words about what we think comes next. The sentence was “…to wound the autumnal city.” It was a lot of fun to channel my inner-Asimov and take a Sci-Fi approach to the prompt, even though it was tough to fit it within 300 words.
Interested in joining in with the Master Class prompt? Get your post up before Monday night and head on over to link it up at Sinistral Scribblings. Then come back Tuesday to find out what our next opening sentence will be!

Fantastic! I wouldn’t have thought “sci-fi” from the prompt, but it worked perfectly. I absolutely loved “He wished he had paid more attention in his planetology lessons. He knew that at least a dozen planets had a major city that was referred to as an autumnal city, but he couldn’t remember a single one.”
Funny enough, that was one of the first things I thought to include while I was brainstorming. It should be a warning to all of us to pay more attention to our planetology lessons!
ahha, i totally loved this. i love stories that are so easy to ‘see’ quickly and even for as short as it is it can stand alone.
That was what I was hoping to capture was a short, simple story with a nice twist to it. Apparently I was successful! Thanks.
HA! Nice twist! I love it!
Thanks Eric. I was hoping that the ending would work out. I squeezed every bit I could out of those 300 words for this one, even though it could easily have been a longer story. It could also become a nice little intro to a bigger story about those rogue robots taking over the autumnal city. Hmm…
